The Empowered Health Project is a youth-run organization that aims to educate young women about racial and gender inequality in medicine. With this information, we intend to give women the knowledge, tools and confidence to self-advocate in the doctor's office.
Hi, I'm Amelia Scharff, founder of The Empowered Health Project. After struggling with getting a diagnosis and proper treatment for Acromegaly, I felt defeated and depressed. When I realized that feeling unheard and mistreated by doctors was a common experience among women, I decided to be apart of the change so no other women have to go through what I did. When women have more knowledge about their own bodies and the healthcare system, they will be more confident to self-advocate for themselves in the doctor's office, leading to better care for all women.
Hi, I am Eloise Stoddard, Director of Operations for The Empowered Health Project! As teenage girl growing up in a strained political climate, I have been exposed to the injustices women face constantly, so I am passionate about fighting for women’s rights. Now, more than ever, women need to be seen and heard in order to take control of our bodies, and I hope that my role in The Empowered Health Project contributes to the change women are hoping to see in our healthcare system.
